- What causes my car to shut off at mid track? Answer. Low compression.
- Why does my idle stay up too high at idle?Answer. To much compression or short pipe.
- Which plug should I use?Answer. Depends on the day but a #6 should be a good start.
- Whats the best percentage of nitro to use?Answer. 50% is common for drag racing for .21 sized motors. For .15 and smaller 40% or less seems to work best.
- What size tire should I use? Answer. Depends on the track conditions. The better the track preparation the less tire you need
- Can I add more stall to my clutch the get a better launch?Answer. Actually there is a very narrow range to where the clutch works best. If you need to add more stall more than likely the problem isnt with the clutch . It most likely is a poorly tuned motor causing the problem.
- Do I need a moded motor to win?Answer. Not at all. First off modding for dragracing is much different than modding for any other type raceing. Finding someone who knows how to mod for dragracing is the first trick. The wrong modifications could lead to more problems than good. Its always a safe bet to stick with a motor out of the box that you know will work.
- What gearing should I use? Answer. There is a gearing chart to figure this out. I have found that on a belt driven nitro drag car if you can produce around 4800 wheel rpm in frist gear and 7800 wheelrpm in final drive that this should produce some desireable results.
- My car takes off really lazy. What should I do?Answer.. Adjust compression and or pipe. More that likely its not a clutch issue.
- My car sputters all the way down the track. What should I do?Answer.. Raise compression and or shorten pipe.
- My car spins out into the wall. What should I do?Answer.. Its a traction issue an or loose wheel hub.
- I am blowing plugs but Im sputtering down the track? I richen up and still blow plugs? Whats wrong?Answer.. You might have a hurt motor and or bearing failure.
- How much gap should I have in a clutch?Depends on what type of clutch you use. For belt drive cars the centax style clutch is what most people use. Manufactures suggested gap is approx. .010 thousanths.
- When the drag racing day is over, should I do anything to my nitro motor?Answer...YES! You MUST clean out the motor after each and every time put it up for the day. Use some sort of cleaner (after run oil) that will wash out the nitro from the bearings and motor case. This keeps the bearings from pitting and premature wear on the motor.
- I`ve tried everything. I just cant get it to go any faster than a 2.0 sec in 132ft. Is there anything I can do to go faster?Answer.. Yes .. Be patient. Tuning a nitro motor is an art. You wont figure out everything to do to a nitro r/c motor in a short period of time. Sometimes it takes years to learn what the motor wants and needs to produce power.
- I rev up my nitro motor and when I do it seems to starve for fuel? I richen and it still does it. What should I do?Answer.. Check for trash in the carburator. Or holes in the fuel supply line.
- My car runs well on the bottom and off the starting line but then seems to lay down on the topend. What should I do?Answer... A few things could be wrong. The motor could be a bit lean and or the pipe is backing up too much pressure. Increase flow through the exhaust system.
- I cant get to the 1.6 second zone in 132ft? What should I do?Answer.. Just remember.. the faster you go the more that every last detail will need to be perfect. Take your time and pay attention to the details.. The fast passes will follow.
